Internet Marketing Newbies Think Alike

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

I started off calling this post ‘Great Minds Think Alike’, but since Internet Marketing newbies have great minds it still applies.

In a previous post (or was that a rant?), I was talking about how the dream sellers pull the emotional heart strings of business opportunity seekers.

I did have a point. Aside from just getting it off my chest and asking you to consider how you might be sucked in by these types of pitches.

My point was also that you should pay attention when you are being sold something. Pay attention to the language, the graphics, the entire sales process. Where the links take you, what the thank you page and the download page and all of it look like.

From there, you can start to model your own.

I’m not advising you to copy. What I’m saying is that we can learn from both good and bad examples. If you see something that punches all your buttons, and you have a strong emotional reaction (good or bad), then you can either adopt that method or make sure you never use it.

Thinking about your reaction will tell you a lot about the customer that type of promotion will attract.

Now ask yourself what type of customer you want. Hint: It isn’t just one who sends you money.

Back to great minds think alike. As an Internet marketing newbie, you have an opportunity to build a customer base with people who are like-minded. Who respond to the same things you do. Do that.

The alternative is to sell in a way that doesn’t feel ‘right’ for you, and end up with customers you wouldn’t want to share a table with at the company picnic.

Learn from both sides of the fence. The good and the bad. Every example has a lesson in it.

Today is the day Pat O’Bryan’s new book ‘Your Portable Empire: Earn Money from Anywhere Doing What you Love’ is available from Amazon.com

If you’re looking to make a living on the Internet, Pat’s system can put you on the right track. He sets out simple steps to finding a niche, producing a product, building a list … pretty much everything you need to know to get up and running.

This book can help you, but if you get it today and give Pat your receipt number, you’ll also benefit from $10,000 worth of bonuses.

That’s not a typo. $10,000 worth of bonuses.

Head over to Pat O’Bryan’s Book Launch for the details.

Did I mention the book is only $17? $17 in exchange for more than $10,000. Not a bad gig.

But it’s only available today …

Dead like me …

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

I was speaking with an online friend this morning and she had just pulled an all-nighter. She opened the conversation with: Are you dead like me?

Unfortunately I could relate. I’ve had a stack of work to do this week and barely noticed that there was a holiday this weekend. Oh, wait … Today IS the holiday. See what I mean?

I don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble, but I wasn’t kidding  when I said Internet Marketing is more like plodding, and less like a sprint. In spite of all the websites and all the stories about overnight riches, some of us are just putting one foot in front of the other trying to build a business.

Build a business

In essence that is what we’re trying to do online and with all the hype it’s sometimes easy to forget that and to feel you aren’t moving forward quickly enough.

Building a business takes time. You need to have something great to promote, you need to identify and then reach your customers, and then establish a good relationship with them and support them after the sale.

It’s helpful to remember that it doesn’t happen overnight in the real world either. Even ‘overnight successes’ like J.K. Rowling will tell you they’ve put in their time and paid their dues.

The key is to not be discouraged. We’ll get there.  Just be willing to do the next thing on your list, and then the next, and before you know it you’ll have a viable online business.

And it wouldn’t hurt to have some balance in your life, too. Go for a swim, walk the dog, meet a friend for coffee.

Have some fun! And hopefully you won’t find yourself in the same pickle and with the same opening words as my friend:

Are you dead like me?
